The "Botanical Guide to Praça da República and Jardim da Luz" was prepared by the Swiss botanist Alfred Usteri (1869-1948) and published in 1919. The intention, was "to make the parks susceptible to being read and understood by lay people curious to get started in natural history". But, in addition to the instruction, this article intends to explore how the Guide was an important dissemination material. Thus, in this article, we intend to elucidate how this Guide, and some of the professionals directly or indirectly involved in its elaboration, contributed to the dissemination of a plant and landscape repertoire in the State from São Paulo.
