MEJIA REYES, Pablo; RENDON ROJAS, Liliana; REYES HERNANDEZ, Marlen Rocío e RAMIREZ RODRIGUEZ, Roberto. EFECTOS DEL GASTO PÚBLICO SOBRE LA PRODUCCIÓN DE LOS ESTADOS DE MÉXICO, 2004-2018: UN ANÁLISIS DE PANEL DE DATOS ESPACIAL. Estud. econ. [online]. 2022, vol.39, n.78, pp.97-125. ISSN 2525-1295.
This paper analyses the effects of public current and investment expenditure on the gross domestic product (GDP) growth in the states of Mexico over the period 2004-2018. To do this, econometric spatial panel data models are estimated, controlling for the impact of other determinants. The results suggest the existence of spatial interactions between GDP growth rates, as well as positive effects of growth of the tradable goods producing sector and the specialization of the production structure, but negative of the remittance to GDP ratio (smoothing hypothesis). Interestingly, there is no evidence of significant effects of any kind of public spending, implying serious limitations of state governments in boosting production.
