MALLEVILLE, Sofia  e  BELIERA, Anabel. The place of recognition in the nursing jobs. Re-thinking the job precariousness concept. Estud. trab. [online]. 2020, n.59, pp.49-51. ISSN 0327-5744.

Nursing occupies a subordinate position within the hospital environment and is exposed to processes of job precariousness. There is a consensus in the literature that job precariousness does not only refer to the contractual dimensions of employment (temporary contracts, extension of working hours, low wages, etc.) but also subjective aspects (lack of recognition, dissatisfaction with work, subordination to other groups, etc.). However, in the case of nursing we find that the lack of visibility does not always imply a lack of job recognition or an increase in precariousness but, on the contrary, sometimes the opacity of their tasks becomes a valuable aspect of work. In this article, we will argue that it is necessary to study the relationship between invisibility and job precariousness based on qualitative studies and in a situated manner, since the link between these two variables depends on the sense assigned by the workers themselves to their work. We compare the results of two doctoral investigations in which the care work carried out by nurses is analyzed from a qualitative methodological perspective, based on the performance of participant observations and in-depth interviews.
