SCHULZE, María Soledad e AZCARATE, Josefina. Sexual division of labor in the Argentinean fishing industry. Empirical explorations regarding the reforms of the Fishing Law 24.922. Estud. trab. [online]. 2022, n.63, pp.1-25. ISSN 0327-5744.
This paper seeks to rethink the relationship between the world of work and gender, taking as a reference a particular case, namely the Argentinean industrial fishing sector. Fishing, especially in its commercial extractive activity, has been strongly masculinised, and the current processes of social change make it necessary to review the assumptions and facts in this respect, the concrete ways in which women and diversities are included in the work and the resistances that are found in this process. In order to advance in the proposed direction, we rely on a survey of the Observatory of the Argentinean Fishing System, of which we are part, which was carried out in the context of the half sanction in the Chamber of Senators of Law 24. 922 “Regime for the Promotion and Participation of Women and Diversity in the Fishing Sector”, which presents modifications to the Federal Fishing Regime, which aims to promote and guarantee the participation, access, conservation and progress of women and transvestites, transsexuals and transgender people in employment in the national fishing fleet. A short form that was kept open online 24 hours a day on Monday 24 May 2021 was answered by 272 people in the fishing sector, who were contacted through a “snowball” strategy.
