RAPELA, Laura; ANDREU, Mauro e CAPODARCO, Gastón. Outpatient pulmonary rehabilitation in subjects with post-COVID 19 syndrome. A case series. Argentinian j. respiratory physical therapy [online]. 2022, vol.4, n.1, pp.26-32. Epub 23-Fev-2022. ISSN 2618-4095. http://dx.doi.org/10.58172/ajrpt.v4i1.199.
Objective:
To describe the clinical course of the functionality and quality of life in subjects with post-COVID-19 syndrome who underwent an outpatient pulmonary rehabilitation (PR) program.
Materials and method:
An observational, descriptive, and retrospective study. Functionality was evaluated at baseline and week four of the PR program with the 1-minute sit-to-stand (1-min STS) and time up and go (TUG) tests, activities of daily living limitations with the patient specific functional scale (PSFS), and quality of life with the RAND 36-item health survey.
Results:
Seventeen subjects completed the 4-week PR program; of them, 15 were female, and the median age was 53 years (IQR 43 - 61). The most frequent comorbidity was obesity. The median number of 1-min STS repetitions was 14 (IQR 11 - 16.5) at the beginning of rehabilitation and 26 (IQR 20.5 - 29) at week 4. The median TUG time was 8.8 (IQR 6.9 - 10) seconds at the beginning of rehabilitation and 5.3 (IQR 4.3 - 7.4) seconds at week 4. The median PSFS score for difficulty in the main activities of daily living was 5 (IQR 3.1 - 6.2) at the beginning of rehabilitation and 8.8 (IQR 8 - 9.4) at week 4. The RAND-36 domains related to limitations due to physical and emotional problems improved from a median of 0 at baseline to 100 points at week 4.
Conclusion:
After the PR program, there was an improvement in the functionality and quality of life in subjects with post-COVID 19 syndrome.
