The formation of an ethical conscience in a scientist, as this has not been a matter of interest, but since a few years ago. It was supposed, in general, that university instruction adequately formed his professional conscience and that this social education (familiar, religious, etc.) formed his personality, considering other aspects. If conflicts came into sight, they were solved according to certain pragmatic rules that were supposed aboved all the exact function distinction. In other words, professional deontology would never be in opposition to te general individual conscience. Today we are not sure about this. Neither are we sure that it is convenient to have a university education disconnected from man´s whole reality, a man who studies and will practice science as a profession. The proliferation of ´humanistic´ or ´formative´ subjects in every career, specially in the so called ´hard sciences´, as well as in technological career, this has been a not very effective palliative. It does not seem to be easy to internalize certain academic contents little bound to the discipline studied. The Chistian Church (the Catolic Church and the reformed ones) has a long teaching path, as well as notable experience in te attempt, many times carried out, to form an ethical conscience in future scientists. It must be said that they have not always been successful. In this communication I will put forward an outline that is advocatte form the image and projection of St. Francis of Assisi as a little known but fairly interesting aspect of Franciscanism. This is precisely because Franciscan tradition treated, since its beginings, a sincere dialogue with the ´different´ from the rest (especially te ´Islamic´ of the 13th century) who were also social enemies and they have continued being, to a greater or lesser extent, till nowadays, the fact even today, all over the world, Franciscans are accepted as valid interlocutors by the official institutions of crime and drugaddictions, by ecologists, and members of differents creeds (especially Buddhists and Muslims) shows the interest of their educational project, regarding the formation of a human - Christian scientist who practices universal values.
