FERNANDEZ, Diego Sebastián. ANALYSIS OF SUSCEPTIBILITY OF DEBRIS FLOWS AT REGIONAL SCALE IN THE ARGENTINE PUNA. Ser. correl. geol. [online]. 2017, vol.33, n.1, pp.1-10. ISSN 1666-9479.

In this work a new methodology for mass movements susceptibility zoning analy-sis, including both occurrence and propagation of the movements, is proposed. The study was performed in a region of the Puna plateau, Argentina, between San Antonio de Los Cobres and Olcapato localities in the province of Salta. The methodology was implemented at 1:100.000 scale allowing a regional susceptibi-lity zoning of the occurrence and propagation of different mass wasting movements. GIS techniques were used for the evaluation and weighting of the different layers under analysis. Trigger factor assessment, pre-cipitations, was performed using the modifed Fournier aggressivity index and a rain accumulation index. As intrinsic terrain control factors that control slope stability slope gradient, Melton ruggedness number, distance to rivers and lithology were computed. The occurrence of the movements was modeled using the above control factors. Then fow propagation was calculated with Flow-R sofitware using the SRTM 30m digital elevation model (DEM). The model was evaluated with control feld data from a landslide inventory of the area and showed good agreement between high mass movements susceptibility zones and landslide locations observed in the feld. High precision multi-satellite data have allowed the development of the model in a region where climatic registers are scarce or absent. In combination with SRTM 30m data, used for geomorphometric parameters, the model has showed to be useful for landslide hazard zoning in areas over 4000 masl where the access is difficult by terrestrial media.
