BLASCO, María Elida. Between Nation and Province: The Historical Museum organization in Salta during the decade of 1930 y 1940. Andes [online]. 2016, vol.27, n.1, pp.00-00. ISSN 1668-8090.
The National Commission of Museums and of Monuments and Historical Places (CNMyMyLH), organized in 1938 under the direction of historian Ricardo Levene, was the first administrative structure emerged in Argentina in order to define public control policies on goods and properties of historic interest. This article explores the different forms of intervention of this institution in the historical museum organization situated in the building where the old Cabildo of Salta was established. The first part of the text reconstructs the process by which in the years previous to the constitution of CNMyMyLH, the building was declared National Historic Monument for creating a museum, which kept the discourse and representations about the past that circulated among the historians and advertisers. The second part analyses how between 1938 and 1945, the CNMyMyLH began to administrate the monument, restored it and supported the establishment of the Colonial Historical Museum and Fine Arts dependent on the Province of Salta. Finally, it examines the period in which the Historical Museum of the North, placed in the same building, was organized. It was inaugurated in 1949 under national supervision.
