The aim of this paper is to offer some considerations on interdisciplinarity based upon a research project built at the intersection of translation studies, philosophy and historical anthropology. The object of study is oral linguistic mediation or language interpretation in the context of the colonial "parlamentos" celebrated between the Spanish and the Mapuche at the Araucanian frontier in southern Chile. We will describe the interdisciplinary construction of the object of study and the methodology used. Finally, we will discuss some difficulties encountered and the possibilities we believe can be brought about by interdisciplinary dialogue when approaching a multifaceted topic such as the practice of interethnic conferences mediated by interpreters in colonial history.
