RIZZARDI, Davide. Africa in the making: colonial spectres and counter-wills. Rev. Esc. Hist. [online]. 2021, vol.20, n.1, pp.00-00. ISSN 1669-9041.
This work entails a study on the condition of Africa to recognize its dynamic character. To understanding the specific condition of Africa’s past and present, the work analyses mainly African and Global South scholars. Their contributions helped develop a multi-epistemological and non-eurocentric perspective. The work emphasizes the fundamental and ambivalent role of culture as a playfield for creating the conditions for both domination and emancipation of subaltern people. At the same time, the work tries to combine the cultural analysis with a material perspective, studying colonialism and neo-colonialism as political and economic phenomena. The analysis reaches contemporary capitalism in which neoliberalism is dominating together with its dispossessive logics of accumulation. Finally, the work reflects upon the deepening of Africa’s condition of subalternity in the capitalist world-system while, in the last chapter, it tries to find the cultural conditions for Africa’s political emancipation in Cabral and Fanon’s work.
