In this paper, we present results from a research that have developed and applied a strategy for assessing mathematical modelling activities in the classroom. The research is based on theoretical assumptions of mathematical modelling in mathematics education and assessment as a teaching and learning strategy. The assessing strategy was developed according to the phases associated with the development of mathematical modelling activities. This strategy was validated and applied modelling activities developed by seven groups of students in a course in a course of Differential and Integral Calculus 1 from Chemistry Undergraduate course from a public university in Brazil. With the implementation of the assessment, strategy noted the practicality on both the qualitative and quantitative sense, highlighting the need for adjustments in accordance with the characteristics of activities.
