The evaluation of learning has been studied by researchers, especially since the 1990s, resulting in a series of publications on the many variables involved in the evaluation process, from early childhood education to higher education. However, we still see a large gap between the research and the school floor. In this context, we developed an investigation with the objective of analyzing the evaluation practice of the mathematics professors of the EREM (School of Referência en Ensino Médio) of the state network of Pernambuco. To do so, we performed a qualitative research, through the realization of observations in two groups of the first year of the Secondary Education in two EREMs located in the city of Recife. The theoretical framework presents the main models and evaluative proposals, which, throughout the twentieth century, were developed and are references for the organization of evaluation systems and evaluation by teachers, being systematized by authors such as: Fernandes (2008); Giroux (2004); Hadji (1994); Hoffmann (2014); Luckesi (2011, 2013); Pimienta Prieto (2008); Vianna (1995, 2000). The results show that, in those schools that have specific guidelines for the performance of a more formative evaluation, the summative character predominates, being necessary: a revision in the proposal of permanent training and accompaniment of the teaching activities, so that they can go beyond the model of: exposure - training - verification and classification.
