In the context of the changes and reconfiguration of the sovereignty of states, discusses the difficult relationship between institutions and citizens in Mexico. This attention is paid to historic proportions in the conformation of the Mexican nation, as well as aspects of citizen participation. Mexican democracy faces important challenges related to social cohesion, widespread drug violence and the legitimacy of state institutions. Secondary sour ces are used, and the data collected from a national survey.
