Abstract. Argentina is a historical producer and exporter of commodities. This study analyzes whether the prices of agricultural products and the gross domestic product (GDP) shared a trend and/or a common cycle and the extent to which they were synchronized during 1980-2018, on a quarterly basis. Results indicate that shocks in commodity prices alter the long-term path of Argentine GDP. In addition, cycles appeared to be synchronized from the beginning of the 2000s until the last reversal of the trend at the end of 2013, spending 68% of the time in the same phase. gentina is a historical producer and exporter of commodities.
