MORETTI HARACH, Máximo Nahuel. Reflexiones sobre el debate áreas versus disciplinas desde la Geografía en la educación superior de la provincia de Buenos Aires. Rev. Univ. geogr. [online]. 2007, vol.16, n.1, pp.215-237. ISSN 1852-4265.

The decade of the 90's was a key decade for the Argentinean National Education System. The implementation of the Federal law of Education reorganized the whole system as well as the ccurricular contents and the several concerns of each of them. This article is intended to explore the impact caused by the Education Law of the Province of Buenos Aires, from the education federal law, fromt he normative and epistemological point of view. The curricular design will be analyzed through the empiric material and the teachers problems when they tried to discuss the "Areas vs. Disciplines" dicotomy. Moreover, some conflicts generated in the everyday teaching experience will be also analyzed. The Province decided to implement the "area" concept in the education system and thus Geography would move from the Human Sciences to the "social reality". Here is where one of the most important obstacles in the curricular design of the Province of Buenos Aires appears, as well as the re-definition of the social sciences from the so-called "social reality", and the obstacles in the teaching room everytime a "common teaching area" wants to be organized.

Palavras-chave : Areas; Disciplines; Geography; Education; Social Reality.
