University integrity is a conceptual category and a practice that, although not new, has gained considerable strength in Latin American universities in recent years. The first part of the article analyzes the concept of integrality from the perspective of Critical Extension, conceiving it as a dialogue between functions, actors, knowledge and knowledge to address the problems of the territory. Secondly, it discusses the ruptures that this institutional and socio–epistemological innovation supposes, analyzing the assumptions about knowledge and the institutional codes that are modified. Thirdly, some advances made at the National University of Río Cuarto in the direction of integrality are described. Finally, some limits and conditions are analyzed – academic, organizational, pedagogical, political and, especially, cultural – necessary to build viability of integrality, taking into account the lessons learned.
