Abstract

VILLARROYA, David Marqués. From point to infinity through a finite thread of charge. Rev. enseñ. fís. [online]. 2023, vol.35, n.1, pp.53-62. ISSN 0326-7091.  http://dx.doi.org/10.55767/2451.6007.v35.n1.41390.

This work shows that the same real physical system can be reduced to a point or infinite system under certain particular conditions. For this, the electric field created by a uniformly charged finite thread is calculated and it is observed that the same real physical system can behave as a point charge or as the opposite, an infinite wire. The objective of this article is to show a practical example of infinite and punctual models in physics for their application in the teaching of pre-universitary physics.

Keywords : Finite thread; Electric field; Point system; Infinite system.
