Abstract

SKLODOWSKA, Elzbieta. A Soundboard: The (Ninety) Havana Archives of Dainerys Machado Vento. Recial [online]. 2023, vol.14, n.23, pp.72-90.  Epub June 30, 2023. ISSN 2718-658X.  http://dx.doi.org/10.53971/2718.658x.v14.n23.41370.

This study examines the collection of short stories by Dainerys Machado Vento, titled Las noventa Habanas (2019), in conjunction with oral, visual and written archives that emerged during the intersection of the temporal axis of the 1990s-known in Cuba as The Special Period in Times of Peace- and the spatial axis defined by the ninety-mile distance between Cuba and Florida. Through close readings that focus on textual, contextual and intertextual details, this essay emphasizes the poetics and ethics of innovation and renovation found in Las noventa Habanas.

Keywords : Havana; archive; Special Period; Cuban narrative; innovation.
